This article raises some interesting questions for Pa DUI lawyers.
For instance, could a rise in DUI arrests somehow relate to lower drunk driving mortality rates?
It seems that such a correlation could be made by some Pa DUI attorneys.
Of course, this is only based on data from the Pennsylvania police, as reported by the Associated Press.
Police Commissioner Frank Pawlowski stated that the number of DUI arrests by troopers in 2009 was 16,900. This increase in DUI arrests was a four percent increase from the previous year but also a signal of lower alcohol-related fatalities.
This data poses some interesting questions to Pennsylvania DUI lawyers. For one, could the fact that there were more DUI arrests somehow show that the increase in DUI arrests actually deters people from more serious DUI infractions?
Now, bear in mind that we really don't have a lot of information to work with here. The AP piece was short and didn't provide too much detail about the exact nature of the arrests.
Nevertheless, could it be that the threat of arrests may be keeping more DUI offenders off the roads? Could it be that more arrests don't necessarily mean more DUI's? After all, we're just talking about the DUI offenders that were caught, not necessarily the ones who flew (or drove, rather) under the radar.
Police Commissioner Frank Pawlowski attributes the drop in the number of alcohol-related fatalities and alcohol-related crashes to the expansion of a drug recognition expert program.
While there could be multiple reasons made as to why there have been fewer drunk driving crashes, the news is still good for PA DUI lawyers. At least they will have much lesser crimes to defend in court.
